Holyfield, Tyson Are Discussing Boxing Rematch, Guardian Says

Feb. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Evander Holyfield said he and Mike Tyson are discussing the possibility of fighting each other for a third time, the Guardian newspaper reported, citing an interview with the four-time heavyweight boxing champion.
Holyfield, 45, said Tyson approached him via an intermediary to discuss a rematch, the Guardian reported. Their second fight in 1997 ended in controversy when Tyson was disqualified for twice biting Holyfield, on one occasion tearing off a chunk of his ear.
``There has been some talk between us,'' the Guardian cited Holyfield as saying. ``Mike had Jeff Fenech, who's been training him, call me a few months ago. Jeff says Mike wants to fight me again, but he needs to know if I would agree to it. I said, `It all depends on what they gonna give us, because I'm gonna catch a lot of flak if I say I'm fighting Mike Tyson again.'''
Holyfield knocked out Tyson when they first fought in 1996 and has a professional boxing record of 42-9-2. Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in 1986 when he beat Trevor Berbick at age 20. Now 41, Tyson last fought in June of 2005, when he quit during the seventh round of a bout against Kevin McBride to leave his record at 50-6.

Mayweather gets £5m Hatton offer
Mayweather v Hatton could happen later this year
Promoter Dennis Hobson has offered Floyd Mayweather £5m to fight Ricky Hatton in Britain later this year.
Mayweather says he is willing to come out of retirement to fight Manchester's light welterweight champion.
"I've spoken to some of his people and they've been very receptive. It's a very substantial offer," said Hobson.
However, Hatton's former promoter Frank Warren claims he could promote some of his future fights after settling his libel row with the fighter's father.

LA Times: Sex Ed in the Sports Section

Sports fans checking the box scores this morning got a lesson in "transsexualism" when they opened the LA Times. Mike Penner, one of the paper's sports writers, announced in his column he is taking a few weeks off. When he returns he’ll be known as Christine Daniels.
The column detailed Penner's 40-year struggle with “transsexualism.” He said that “extensive therapy and testing” show that his brain was “wired female.” He defended the “medical condition” as “widely misunderstood” and a “natural occurrence.”
Penner describeed his coming out process and said he “gave it as good a fight as I possibly could. I went more than 40 hard rounds with it. Eventually, though, you realize you are only fighting yourself and your happiness and your mental health – a no win situation any way you look at it.
“When you reach the point when one gender causes heartache and unbearable discomfort, and the other brings more joy and fulfillment that you ever imagined possible, it shouldn’t’ take two tons of brinks to fall in order to know what to do.”
He detailed the painful and reluctant coming-out process he started a few months ago and said that his friends and colleagues “almost universally have been supportive and encouraging.” He added that he is now “happier, more focused and more energized” when he writes, no longer suffering from “wicked writer’s block.” He shared his therapist’s opinion that such freedom is what comes when transsexuals “integrate.”
While no one can deny that Penner has been through some intense personal struggles, his column read like a brochure from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). One wonders how many young sports fans opened up the paper to find out how their favorite team did and ended up with an unexpected sex-ed lesson.

Audley the Lightweight blown away!
Audley has been knocked out.
Thank goodness that the reign of this very ordinary boxer could now be over!
He's not been very good for the reputation of British boxing over the last few years:
Very cautious
Very ordinary
Lacking in courage
Poor opposition
These have ben the hallmarks of his limited success!!!!!!!!!!
